Even though no trade has been made just yet for the Los Angeles Chargers' star RB Austin Ekeler, LA is determined to not their negotiations with him impact their goals for the rest of their squad.

Many thought a deal might get done before or during the NFL Draft that just took place. The Denver Broncos remained a franchise heavily linked to him but GM Tom Telesco made it clear that they had significant updates on Ekeler's future and that no team had come forth with a solid offer.

So what is the next step for LA? They were very active during the draft nonetheless and brought in a solid mix of pass-catchers, defense, and more. Add that to the addition of Kellen Moore as their newest offensive coordinator and JC Jackson who is making progress in his rehab and things are looking up.

It does suck to see that Ekeler is not present though as LA looks to ramp up again and start up their offseason workouts. He is one of the most important players on the team for now and his situation was far different just one year ago.

But Moore must work with what he has and even if that means Ekeler will not show up and Justin Herbert is still recovering from surgery, he still has plenty of key pieces to help adjust to his new system.

And he is prioritizing the group that is showing up versus worrying about if he'll ever get to work with Ekeler.

“Right now, we’re just so focused on really the foundation of the system, of offensive football,” Moore explained. “Just kind of building a really solid foundation focusing more on the bigger picture, the big picture from a scheme standpoint."

This is exactly what you want to see from the Chargers' newest OC and he will create a stellar system with or without their best RB.
