Chiefs Trade Up, Select Wanya Morris With No. 92 Overall Pick

For the second time on Day 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Chiefs move up to secure their desired prospect.
In this story:

The Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals are known for their intense rivalry in the AFC, but the two teams worked together on a trade during the later stages of Day 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft. Sending pick Nos. 95 and 217 to Cincinnati in exchange for No. 95, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Kansas City has made its third selection of draft weekend.

With the 92nd overall pick, the Chiefs selected Oklahoma offensive tackle prospect Wanya Morris.

The NFL Draft Bible on Sports Illustrated had a brief one-sentence summary on Wanya's scouting report profile:

Morris is gifted with long arms, strength throughout his frame, and a physical demeanor, but he lacks the athleticism and technical development to see action as a tackle early in his NFL career.

Morris, who played at Tennessee and was their left tackle earlier in his college career, ended his collegiate experience at Oklahoma and was a standout prospect for the Sooners. Possessing tremendous length and adequate athleticism for the position, the 22-year-old posted an 8.35 on the Relative Athletic Score (RAS) scale. The arm length is a massive plus as he heads into the NFL and looks to keep his chest clean, and that physical trait is also a boon for the Chiefs and something they look for in tackle prospects quite often:

Arrowhead Report's Zack Eisen points out that Morris has some familiarity with two of the Chiefs' starting offensive linemen. He played with right guard Trey Smith back when he was at Tennessee, and he later joined Oklahoma but never played alongside center Creed Humphrey. The soon-to-be rookie is excited to be a Chief and said shortly after getting drafted that he'll play wherever Kansas City asks him to:

Morris's proficiency at offensive tackle could allow him to compete for the team's starting job this season, a role that former third-round pick Lucas Niang is the prime candidate for. At the very least, Morris will be able to translate what he learned over the course of his college career and parlay it into a high-end backup role that could rival players like Darian Kinnard and Prince Tega Wanogho immediately.
