Chiefs vs. Eagles: Super Bowl LVII Preview and Predictions

The Arrowhead Report crew predicts whether KC can cap off its 2022-23 season as champions.

To conclude a season in which many expected them to take a small step back, the Kansas City Chiefs fought through the AFC playoff field and find themselves squaring off against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII. Can Andy Reid get to 2-2 in Super Bowls with a win over his former team, or is Philly in for a special night that sees Jalen Hurts truly ascend into the conversation for elite quarterbacks? Arrowhead Report predicts the outcome of the final game of the 2022-23 NFL campaign.

Joshua Brisco: Even though this Super Bowl has been jam-packed with tremendous narratives, the game itself will be decided by matchups. While the Eagles' pass rush will certainly create pressure on Patrick Mahomes, Mahomes is exceptional at preventing pressures from turning into negative plays. Philadelphia's secondary is extremely talented, but Travis Kelce and KC's now-healthier receivers should win enough matchups to keep the offense moving.

The Eagles' offensive line is tremendous, but the Chiefs' secondary and pass rush have both taken massive strides in recent weeks, both through the air and on the ground. Ultimately, I expect the Chiefs to win out just often enough to bring home their second Lombardi Trophy in four years.

Prediction: Chiefs 27, Eagles 24

Jordan Foote: Ironically, despite the massive amount of talent the Eagles have on paper, one very well could argue that this team is a better matchup for the Chiefs than the Bengals were in the AFC Championship Game. Kansas City projects to put up some points on a dominant Philly defense, especially if both tackles hold up against the league's best pass-rushing unit. Steve Spagnuolo's defense will be under the microscope in this game, which many expected for playoff contests heading into the season. The Chiefs have progressed too far to go home without winning, and I believe their experience in games like this one will be the ultimate deciding factor in a one-score game.

Prediction: Chiefs 31, Eagles 27

Mark Van Sickle: The day has finally arrived. The Chiefs are back in the Super Bowl after a season where many doubters were proven wrong. The Chiefs have the advantage at head coach and quarterback which usually bodes well for teams in big games. Andy Reid has been on this stage multiple times and Patrick Mahomes is coming off his second MVP season. Steve Spagnuolo is going to have this defense ready to put it on Jalen Hurts to try and beat the Chiefs with his arm. While the talk of the media has been all about Mahomes’s ankle, Hurts has been dealing with a shoulder issue that has hindered his ability to throw the ball accurately down the field.

If the Chiefs get after Hurts, that will set them up for success. The offense will have a great game plan to counter the Eagles’ pass rush. All week, the Eagles have been favored and the Chiefs have been disrespected. I can’t pick against Mahomes as an underdog. The Chiefs started the season with a win in Arizona and now they will walk away in the final game of the season with a win there, walking away with their second Super Bowl trophy in four years.

Prediction: Chiefs 31, Eagles 27

Zack Eisen: Super Bowl 57 is the third in four years for the Chiefs; this time their opponent is Andy Reid’s former team. The Eagles have been at the top of the NFC the entire season and cruised their way to the Super Bowl. After a masterful performance last week, Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will have to repeat it this week going against the Eagles’ run game. On the offensive side of the ball, Mahomes has had two weeks to get that ankle as close to 100% as possible. After winning MVP on Thursday, he will come out on fire and play one of his best games yet. The Chiefs have the opportunity to cement themselves as a modern-day dynasty with a win in the Super Bowl, and that’s exactly what they’ll do.

Prediction: Chiefs 37, Eagles 24

Conner Christopherson: Three Super Bowl trips in five years is quite an accomplishment for the Kansas City Chiefs. The story is a bit different heading into this one, though. The team is not all-in while Mahomes is on a rookie contract — this is the new-look Chiefs. This Chiefs team is not comparable to the two Chiefs teams who made the Super Bowl just a few years ago. This team has many new faces, and that fact makes it all the more impressive that they're here.

The Eagles are a good team. They have one of the most talented rosters in the league and their offensive line, especially, is deep beyond belief. The Eagles' trench play has a chance to completely take over the game, especially their edge rushers. I do think, however, the Chiefs match up well with the Eagles. The Chiefs' offense excels in areas the Eagles' defense has shown cracks. The Chiefs' defense excels in areas the Eagles' offense struggles. The Eagles are beatable and if Patrick Mahomes can turn in a great performance, I foresee this game going the Chiefs' way.

Prediction: Chiefs 27, Eagles 23

Marlow Ferguson Jr.: The similarities between these two teams should make this one of the more evenly-matched Super Bowls in history. The trench battle between the Chiefs’ top-ranked pass blocking and the Eagles’ historic pass rush will be one that perhaps decides this game. In a matchup between the league’s newly-crowned Most Valuable Player and the runner-up in Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts, the Eagles' QB won’t be short of motivation in this one, which should turn things into a shootout. And if that’s the case, it’s difficult to go against No. 15, regardless of the circumstances.

Prediction: Chiefs 37, Eagles 34
