Jacksonville Jaguars Safety Rayshawn Jenkins Takes Jab at KC Chiefs' Travis Kelce

Jacksonville's starting safety wasn't a fan of how Kelce conducted himself on Sunday afternoon.

When two teams square off against each other three times in roughly a 10-month span, there's bound to be a bit of a storyline attached to the series. For the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars, two teams with championship aspirations, a bit of a rivalry feel is beginning to creep up.

Despite Andy Reid's team having won each of the three recent meetings against Jacksonville, all of those contests have been mostly competitive. In this season's edition, a Week 2 meeting between both sides, some tempers flared. Already with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on his record for the game, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce started getting into it with Jaguars safety Rayshawn Jenkins. Offsetting unnecessary roughness penalties being issued was a part of that, as both players aired their grievances with one another near the end of the afternoon. Apparently, one side is still feeling some of the animosity.

In a recent locker room interview clip with News4JAX in Jacksonville, Jenkins dove into his matchup with Kelce and shared how he feels about the future Hall of Fame tight end. According to Jenkins, Kelce is "a little too extra at times" and "feels like he's above people." Here's his full quote:

"Shoot, I mean, the stats just speak for themselves. I'm just going to keep it real. What did he have, like 26 yards or something like that? And they all came from zone coverage. Any time he was matched up with me, I handled my business. Of course, he's a good player, but he's a little too extra at times. You know what I'm saying? He gets to disrespecting, he feels like he's above people, and we're all men out there. Let's just play the game."

While Kelce undoubtedly did appear to have a larger chip on his shoulder than normal in Week 2, Jenkins didn't seem to refrain from pushing back at him even a bit. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid didn't think Kelce's attitude was a big issue, although he did mention via Zoom on Monday that "Travis was fighting Travis" all afternoon long.

Most parties have managed to put a cap on this and move on but the next time these two squads play, the Kelce-Jenkins matchup will be a sneaky good one to keep an eye on. The recent comments from Jenkins are bound to still be fresh in someone's mind.
