KC Chiefs Injuries: Good and Bad News Ahead of Game vs. Packers
UPDATE: Bolton is out on Sunday, per the Chiefs' final injury report. There's also been an update on McKinnon's status — read more here.
The Kansas City Chiefs will soon be traveling to Green Bay for their Week 13 game, and the Packers are waiting for the reigning Super Bowl champs. Ahead of Sunday Night Football, there's mostly good news on the injury front for Andy Reid's team.
Speaking to the media on Friday afternoon, Reid indicated that everyone on the active roster should be eligible to play on Sunday. That includes running back Jerick McKinnon and wide receiver Kadarius Toney, who both missed last weekend's game versus the Las Vegas Raiders. The bad news is that linebacker Nick Bolton's return will likely have to wait another week.
Andy Reid says right now he's expecting everyone to be available this weekend vs. Green Bay, including RB Jerick McKinnon (groin). LB Nick Bolton (wrist) will probably wait a week before he's added to the active roster, Reid said.
Bolton was designated to return from injured reserve earlier this week but was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. The former second-round pick hasn't progressed enough in such a short amount of time to be able to return to play. Additionally, he still has a while before hitting the six-week mark that was initially estimated as his recovery window following surgery to repair a sprained wrist. Kansas City is taking a cautious approach with him, and for good reason. In four games this season, Bolton has 28 combined tackles.
Among those playing this week, the expected returns of McKinnon and Toney should help boost the Chiefs' offense. The former is a trusted option in pass protection and out of the backfield as a receiver, and the latter is an explosive athlete that opposing defenses must pay attention to when he's on the field. McKinnon has 185 yards from scrimmage this year with three touchdowns. Toney, also playing in 10 out of 11 games in 2023, has 22 receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown this year. As of Friday, it's shaping up for Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry to have two more players to account for in Week 13.
