The Kansas City Chiefs' time in Germany has officially begun, as multiple members of the team and head coach Andy Reid spoke to the media on Friday. With practice in the books, the club has also released its final injury report of the week.

For the third day in a row, quarterback Patrick Mahomes was a full participant in practice despite battling a left-hand injury suffered in last Sunday's game. That's the good news. On the flip side, running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is confirmed to be ruled out due to an illness and the availability of linebacker Willie Gay Jr. and wide receiver Richie James remains up in the air.

The latter three players all carry designations into Week 9's matchup against the Miami Dolphins:

  • QUESTIONABLE: Willie Gay Jr. (lower back), Richie James (knee)
  • OUT: Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness)

Gay, one of the Chiefs' top linebackers in the rotation, suffered a tailbone injury during Week 8's loss to the Denver Broncos. Reid revealed earlier this week that the fourth-year man would likely avoid going on the injured reserve list, and his limited participation in Thursday and Friday's practices marked good signs for Kansas City. Despite that, the club still isn't sure whether he'll play on Sunday. Here's what Reid had to say on Friday:

"We'll just see about Sunday. Willie is making progress. He was able to do some stuff today, and he is making progress."

James, who was a potential trade candidate near the deadline, ended up staying with the team and saw his 21-day practice window open up this week. The veteran wideout and return man has yet to get officially activated off IR, which would be a necessary move should he get back in the lineup against Miami. James played in Weeks 1 and 2 but has been inactive since then due to a knee injury.

Expect the team to drag out these two injury decisions a bit longer before making a final call during the weekend. Gay has just two days of practice under his belt, so his situation is a bit iffy. James was a full participant in practice throughout the week, providing more optimism for his specific outlook for Week 9. More clarity will undoubtedly be coming by Sunday morning (or early Sunday afternoon, for those in Germany).
