Travis Kelce ‘Pumped’ About Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, Recent KC Chiefs Re-Signings
The Kansas City Chiefs' offseason is officially in full swing, as free agency is in its second week and players around the league are finding ways to stay busy.
For Travis Kelce, that means spending some time on his popular podcast (and also considering hosting a game show). On this week's edition of New Heights with his brother Jason, Kelce discussed Kansas City's offseason thus far. The episode sees general manager Brett Veach and company receive rave reviews for their decisions in the month of March.
Travis Kelce on Chiefs' addition of Hollywood Brown
Late last week, reports surfaced that the Chiefs were adding a big-time playmaker to their roster. That move became official on Monday, with Marquise "Hollywood" Brown joining the two-time reigning champions. Brown is on a one-year deal worth a maximum value of $11 million, allowing him to potentially cash in via a long-term deal a year from now. In the meantime, he gets put in perhaps his best situation yet and Kansas City secures some help for Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Brown's statistical output from last season was nothing special, but his tape depicted the same level of player from his days with the Baltimore Ravens. The 26-year-old is a speedy target that defenses must respect at all times. He's dangerous in all areas of the field and should complement former second-round pick Rashee Rice well in the receiver room. Kelce is excited to get to work, citing Brown as a great pickup.
"I'm pumped about this one, man," Kelce said. "The guy can absolutely fly. Talked to my guys, my Oklahoma Sooners, on what type of guy he is and everybody just raves about the person he is in the building. I saw him on Twitch streaming the day he signed or the day he confirmed it, and he was having a good old time. I think it's going to be a great addition to the locker room, as well as on the field. I'm pumped to get in the building and get to work, baby."
Kelce praises Kansas City's re-signings, weighs in on L'Jarius Sneed situation
It's been a somewhat quiet offseason for the Chiefs, but a handful of moves have transpired nonetheless. A large chunk of that activity was focused on simply retaining pending in-house free agents. Over the last couple of weeks, Kansas City has re-signed players like linebacker Drue Tranquill, defensive tackles Derrick Nnadi, Tershawn Wharton and Mike Pennel, as well as others to new contracts. Of course, that's without even mentioning the multiyear deal for All-Pro Chris Jones.
Kelce is a fan of the re-signings as the Chiefs look to run things back and chase a three-peat. Even cornerback L'Jarius Sneed, who's been subject to no shortage of trade rumors, is still under contract via the franchise tag for 2024-25. While Kansas City awaits a resolution on that front, Kelce is hoping his star teammate will return for one more season and help everyone pursue another championship.
"Before we get out of the Chiefs, I believe we also re-signed some guys," Kelce said. "We got my guy Tershawn Wharton back in the building, Turk! Also, maybe Derrick Nnadi? I think we might've gotten Nnadi back in the building. [...] And as of today at 6:00 a.m., we've still got L'Jarius Sneed, baby. Still there. LJ, man, just stay right there. Just keep cruising. It's still early in the offseason, baby. Just stay right there."
