Report: Arrest Warrant Issued for KC Chiefs WR Rashee Rice for Role in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Dallas
An arrest warrant has been issued for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice, according to WFAA in Dallas, Texas. According to WFAA, Rice now faces eight charges connected to his role in a multi-vehicle crash on March 30: "six counts of collision involving bodily injury, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and one count of aggravated assault, according to the arrest warrant."
On April 4, Rice's attorney, Royce West, confirmed that Rice was driving the Lamborghini SUV involved in the crash. TMZ first reported that Rice was leasing the Lamborghini and owned the Corvette involved in the accident. WFAA's Wednesday report clarifies that Rice was leasing the Corvette and renting the Lamborghini. WFAA reports that the driver of the Corvette, Theodore Knox, faces the same charges as Rice. WFAA notes that "[a] Teddy Knox is listed as a cornerback on the current roster of the SMU football team, where Rice played in college."
WFAA's report doesn't put a definitive timeline on what's next for Rice, but notes that he will "now have a day to turn himself into [sic] police" and that "[t]he Dallas Police Department typically allows suspects a chance to turn themselves in before sending officers to arrest him, sources told WFAA."
In his statement last week, West stressed that Rice has been cooperative with police throughout the process.
"He has fully cooperated with the Dallas Police Department, every question that was asked of him, he responded to," West said. "We will continue to cooperate with them in terms of this particular accident."
On April 3, Rice posted a statement on Instagram.
"Today I met with Dallas PD investigators regarding Saturday’s accident," Rice's statement began. "I take full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate with the necessary authorities. I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted in Saturday’s accident."
