Boston College WR Zay Flowers Working Out With Patrick Mahomes in Texas

Kansas City's star quarterback is meeting up with one of the 2023 NFL Draft's top wideouts.

The 2023 NFL Draft is just a handful of days away, and the Kansas City Chiefs are busy wrapping up top-30 visits with prospects and also beginning phase one of their offseason workout program. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been hosting pass-catchers down in Texas for the remote portion of the offseason program in an effort to build more chemistry, but the wide receiver draft class is now being factored in as well.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that TCU wide receiver Quentin Johnston was spotted getting some work in with Mahomes and some Chiefs offensive weapons. Just a day later, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports on Wednesday morning that Boston College wideout Zay Flowers is making an impromptu appearance (at the team's request) at what some are dubbing "Camp Mahomes." Below is more from Schefter:

Boston College WR Zay Flowers - Mel Kiper’s No. 10 overall prospect - is in Texas today to workout with Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes at the request of the team, per source. Flowers believed his pre-draft process was over after visiting the Titans on Tuesday…until the Chiefs called and asked him to meet up today with Mahomes. - Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 10:47 a.m. CST

Flowers, one of the top receivers in this year's crop, hauled in 78 passes for 1,077 yards and 12 touchdowns during his final collegiate season with the Eagles. Flashing the ability to serve as a well-rounded receiving threat, he displayed the ability to win in multiple areas of the field and put his skill set on full display. Flowers is an extremely dynamic playmaker with the football in his hands, he competes hard for the ball despite being a bit undersized and he's also a technically sound receiver.

If Flowers were a larger player (he's 5-foot-9 and weighed in at 182 pounds in his last pre-draft measurement), there wouldn't be much question surrounding him as a top-flight option in this year's draft. His speed kills, as does his competitive toughness and ability to succeed in innovative offensive schemes.

While the team appears to be confident in the trio of Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore, it could be argued that the Chiefs still have a pressing need at the receiver spot. Whether Flowers is available within striking distance for them in the first round remains to be seen but at the very least, he and Mahomes meeting up on Wednesday is something to monitor as the draft draws nearer and nearer.
