KC Chiefs Add Patrick Mahomes to Week 8 Injury Report as Star QB Battles Flu

Mahomes is a late addition to Sunday's injury report as he deals with an illness, but it isn't all bad news for Kansas City.

The Kansas City Chiefs are just hours away from their Week 8 matchup against the Denver Broncos, but an updated look at the team's injury report sent out a brief scare to many.

On Sunday morning, the team added quarterback Patrick Mahomes to the injury report with an illness. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Mahomes "has been battling the flu" and is doing "better today than yesterday." The superstar signal-caller, per Rapoport, will still be able to play in the afternoon.

Patrick Mahomes has been battling the flu, source said. Better today than yesterday. He'll play.

The #Chiefs have added QB Patrick Mahomes (illness) to the injury report, but he does not have a game designation. He'll play.

Per James Palmer of NFL Network, Mahomes "spiked a fever last night" but there was "no doubt" from him and the team that he'd play in Week 8. Dianna Russini of The Athletic adds that Mahomes "has been receiving IVs both yesterday and today" in advance of the game. Despite the illness, low temperatures in the forecast and snow already having moved into the Denver area, Mahomes is set to tough it out and step onto Empower Field at Mile High in an attempt to lead the Chiefs to victory.

Mahomes isn't the only Kansas City player dealing with being sick this week. Kicker Harrison Butker missed Thursday's practice due to an illness, although he returned to practice on Friday and was a full participant.

In seven games this season, Mahomes has completed 69.5% of his passes for 2,017 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions. The reigning NFL MVP is coming off perhaps his best game of the season, a 424-yard, four-touchdown performance versus the Los Angeles Chargers. Now, he'll look to channel his inner Michael Jordan and deliver a classic 'Flu Game' on Sunday against another AFC West foe.
