KC Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes Nominated for Three ESPYS

Coming off another championship season, the Chiefs star QB Patrick Mahomes could earn some more hardware at the 2023 ESPYS.
In this story:

This offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs have found many different ways to celebrate and honor their 38-35 Super Bowl LVII victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Whether it be a championship parade in front of the hometown crowd in Kansas City, a trip to the White House to visit President Joe Biden for the day or even a ring ceremony back home with members of last year's winning team in attendance, the franchise has been at the NFL's forefront all offseason long.

More reasons to celebrate might be on the way, including some potential hardware to add to the mantle. Nominations for the 2023 ESPYS came out on Wednesday, and three separate awards are related to the Chiefs. Not only did this past season's Super Bowl-winning group get nominated for the Best Team award, but quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a nominee for Best Athlete (Men's Sports) and Best NFL Player. Below is the complete list of this year's nominees:

The 2023 ESPYS, presented by Capital One, are presented by networks ABC and ESPN and awards will be handed out to the most impressive athletic achievements or performances of this past sports year. The ESPY acronym, representing the ceremony that's been in place since 1993, stands for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly. This year's ESPYS will be broadcast on July 12 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC. Athletes will be invited to attend in person at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.

Fans' votes will help decide who wins each ESPY, and voting can be done directly on the ESPN webpage that announced some of this year's top nominees. Other top names on different ballots are NBA Finals champion and two-time league MVP Nikola Jokic, WNBA superstars A'ja Wilson and Candace Parker, soccer icon Lionel Messi and many more.
