In this story:

The Kansas City Chiefs' 2022-23 season ended with the highest possible level of success, as the team accomplished its ultimate goal by winning Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles. Some players immediately began looking toward the future following the win, and backup quarterback Chad Henne was one of them.

In a post via his personal Instagram account, 37-year-old Henne announced that he's "calling it a career." His full post is below:

Henne, who signed with Kansas City back in 2018, has been with the Chiefs for the entirety of the time that Patrick Mahomes has been the club's full-time starter. Over the course of five years, Henne played in 11 regular-season games and made one start for the team. Attempting 59 passes, the former Miami Dolphin and Jacksonville Jaguar completed 41 of those throws (69.5% completion clip) for 359 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Henne's regular-season efforts are primarily tied to his Week 17 start against the Los Angeles Chargers to close out the 2020-21 campaign.

On two occasions, Henne stepped in during the Divisional Round of the playoffs and helped lead the Chiefs. Back in a 2021 contest against the Cleveland Browns, Mahomes was knocked out of the game after taking an awkward hit and Henne completed six of eight passes for 66 yards and also logged one of the most important rushes of the afternoon. In this year's Divisional Round against the Jaguars, Henne stepped in for a hobbled Mahomes (who suffered with a high-ankle sprain) and completed five of seven passes for 23 yards and a touchdown before Mahomes ultimately returned for the second half. Without Henne's performance in either game, it's worth questioning whether Kansas City comes away with those victories.

If this is indeed it for Henne, he retires with a pair of Super Bowl championships to his name. He also got credited with 18 career wins in 78 regular-season appearances (54 starts) and threw for 13,290 yards, 60 touchdowns and 63 interceptions. Teams generally knew what they were getting when Henne stepped out onto the field, and the 2008 second-round pick lasted well over a decade as a journeyman of sorts and retired — as he noted — on top.
