Patrick Mahomes Named to 'Time 100' List of Most Influential People
The "Time 100" list of the most influential people in the world is one of every year's more iconic publications. The list, which is now in its 20th year of existence, recognizes elements such as innovation and achievement for folks who have an influence that is relatively unmatched. It routinely consists of artists, pop culture icons, world leaders, athletes and more. This year's list also features a name that those in NFL and Kansas City Chiefs circles are familiar with: Patrick Mahomes. This is the second time Mahomes made the cut, as he also was listed in 2020.
Mahomes, who is coming off an MVP-winning 2022-23 campaign, also won his second Super Bowl in year No. 6 on the job for Kansas City. Additionally, he managed to expand his reach off the field by joining multiple business endeavors and devoting himself once again to acts that benefit both the local community and the youth at large. His "15 and the Mahomies" foundation continues to improve the lives of multiple organizations, and its impact in just a few short years since being launched is impressive.
For Mahomes's entry, Hall of Fame NFL quarterback Peyton Manning wrote about the 27-year-old's work with kids in attendance at his passing camp, his on-field accomplishments and his work ethic that has led to a tremendous amount of success. The full excerpt can be found below:
Patrick Mahomes once served as a counselor at the Manning Passing Academy, a summer football camp for high school players that my dad founded in 1996. You can learn a lot about a person by the way they treat eighth-graders and ninth-graders during those hot days in Louisiana. Patrick was great with the kids. I remember his arm strength back then. It jumped out at you.
This February, at just 27, Patrick won his second Super Bowl MVP award. That arm strength still jumps out at you today.
Patrick is setting new bars. All these young players around the country are trying to imitate his sidearm throws and incredible plays. But I hope they know he’s also an incredibly hard worker. He appreciates the cerebral part of the game. And he understands his platform, as the MVP quarterback of the Super Bowl–winning team.
This won’t be the last time you hear Patrick Mahomes identified that way.
Mahomes has one of the fastest-growing brands in all of professional sports, partnering with countless organizations and also having ownership stakes in local Kansas City teams such as the Kansas City Royals, Sporting Kansas City and the Kansas City Current. His on-field accomplishments are the first thing that comes to mind for many, but his inclusion on the "Time 100" list for the 2023 calendar year is a reminder that his impact goes beyond that as well.
