When the 2023 NFL schedule first came out, some expected the Kansas City Chiefs' Week 15 game against the New England Patriots to be a thrilling game with possible playoff implications for both clubs. With Bill Belichick and company starting the season with a 2-9 record, though, that's no longer the case.

As a result, the first-ever Monday Night Football flex is taking place. Per multiple reports, Kansas City's game on the road at Gillette Stadium is being shifted to Sunday. It'll be a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff for the Chiefs, with a Philadelphia Eagles vs. Seattle Seahawks matchup taking their place on Monday:

The first-ever Monday Night Football flex: the NFL is flexing Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce off of Monday Night Football in Week 15, replacing the Dec. 18 Chiefs at Patriots game with Eagles at Seahawks.

Eagles now will have three consecutive standalone games from Weeks 14-16:

Week 14: at Dallas on SNF

Week 15: at Seattle on MNF

Week 16: Giants on Christmas Day

Per the NFL's flexible scheduling rules for this year, Monday Night Football flexing comes into play for Weeks 12-17 of the 2023-24 campaign. The NFL's deadline to make such decisions is 12 days before each game, with "consultation with CBS, FOX, NBC and ESPN" taking place. That Week 15 deadline wasn't getting cut too close but before Week 13's play even began, the league opted to put a potentially more entertaining game in perhaps the best slot of the week.

The last time Kansas City and New England squared off was back in October of 2020. The Chiefs won that matchup to rise to 4-0 on the year, as quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 236 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Patriots had to use two signal-callers that week — Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham — and scored just 10 points in the process.

Here's an updated look at the Chiefs' remaining schedule during the regular season:

  • Week 13: at Green Bay Packers (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC)
  • Week 14: vs. Buffalo Bills (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS)
  • Week 15: at Patriots
  • Week 16: vs. Las Vegas Raiders (1:00 p.m. ET, CBS)
  • Week 17: vs. Cincinnati Bengals (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS)
  • Week 18: at Los Angeles Chargers (TBD)
