Brett Veach Shares Reassuring Injury Assessment About Chiefs CB Mansoor Delane

Chiefs rookie Mansoor Delane is currently nursing a shoulder blade injury, but Brett Veach assured fans that it is not a cause for concern yet.

As the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, expectations are sky-high for Chiefs rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane. He is expected to immediately become the leader of a young Kansas City secondary.

While Delane has been present during the Chiefs' training camp, he has donned a yellow non-contact jersey throughout the entirety of it. He only recently began to put on pads and has still not been cleared for contact.

With Kristian Fulton and L'Jarius Sneed nursing their own respective injuries, this news has created a lot of uncertainty around an already inexperienced Kansas City defensive backfield. However, general manager Brett Veach provided Chiefs fans with some much-needed clarity on Monday.

Veach joined SiriusXM Radio and talked about the severity of Delane's injury. He noted that it first appeared during Chiefs OTAs, but that he is gradually progressing in his recovery.

"Starting first with Mansoor, he had a shoulder blade right toward the end of OTAs," Veach said. "And so we don’t think it’s going to be long-term or anything, but that has to just completely heal."

Mansoor Delane’s Shoulder Injury Not Expected to Be Long-Term

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo explained last week that Delane's ailment was in fact a shoulder blade injury, not just a typical shoulder. It's evidently been going on for quite some time now, as OTAs wrapped up in early June, but he appears to be getting closer to full health.

Although there is still a bit of concern with his injury, it shouldn't be long before he's near 100% and taking hits. It is mostly a good thing that he's been practicing in the non-contact jersey so he doesn't fall too far behind with the scheme as a rookie.

Even if he does fall behind a bit in practice, Veach doesn't expect Delane's return to speed to take very long.

"There’s nothing limiting him out there. He's been taking all the 7-on-7 reps and just not the team periods and the contact stuff," he continued. "We want to leave him out of that right now, but I would say in the next 7-8 days, he'll probably get the green light to do everything. So, we're excited about him."

Delane will be one of the X-factors on K.C.'s defense this season alongside likely CB2 Nohl Williams. His development and growth should play a major factor in determining how effective the pass defense is.
