Philip Rivers silenced critics and did something genuinely inspiring on Sunday as he played quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts at the age of 44. The future Hall of Famer, now with a reset eligibility clock, put his team in position to win the game with a clutch drive late in the game—only to see the Seattle Seahawks snatch away victory with a late field goal.

With news of Anthony Richardson being medically cleared Monday to return from an orbital fracture, Rivers's status as the starter was in a bit more doubt, but Colts head coach Shane Steichen made it clear that Rivers will ride again when Indianapolis takes on San Francisco next Monday night.

Rivers did quite a bit of game-managing against the vaunted Seahawks defense, completing 18-of-27 passes for 120 yards and a score. He did throw a game-sealing interception during the Colts' last-ditch effort to get into position for a winning field goal.

San Francisco will present another tall task as Indianapolis' playoff hopes dwindle. But it will also be a cool standalone opportunity for everyone to gather around and watch a 44-year-old quarterback who hasn't played football in a long, long time do it on the biggest stage.
