Report: Colts Starting Cornerback Heading to Raiders

Former Indianapolis Colts cornerback Brandon Facyson is heading to the AFC West.

The Indianapolis Colts will reportedly lose a defensive back who started four games for them a year ago.

According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, former Colts cornerback Brandon Facyson will leave Indy to rejoin the Las Vegas Raiders. The terms of the deal between Facyson and the Raiders have not been released.

Facyson signed a one-year, $3.84 million deal to join the Colts last season. Following current Colts defensive coordinator Gus Bradley from the Raiders, Facyson was expected to hold one of the starting outside corner positions. However, Facyson only recorded four starts and struggled to produce on the field.

In 16 games for the Colts last season, Facyson recorded only 28 tackles and six pass deflections. Facyson failed to generate a turnover all season and was a liability in coverage as he routinely gave up big plays. Facyson's overall grade of 56.2 ranked 92nd out of 118 cornerbacks in 2022, according to Pro Football Focus.

After his poor season in Indy, Facyson was not expected to return to the Colts. While the Colts hoped he could take the next step in Bradley's defense, his poor play never earned him a second look. Facyson returns to the team he spent the 2021 season with, hoping to compete for a starting spot with the Raiders.

The loss of Facyson reinforces the Colts' need at the cornerback position. While the main 2022 starters of Stephon Gilmore, Kenny Moore II, and Isaiah Rodgers Sr. are all currently on the roster, depth is needed for an incredibly thin group.

Moore II could be heading elsewhere this offseason as well if the Colts decide to trade or release him. The former Pro Bowl corner had a disappointing 2022 campaign and did not click with Bradley's defensive scheme.

Expect the Colts to target the cornerback position in free agency and the draft. While all the attention is on what the Colts will do at quarterback, cornerback is certainly a position of need moving forward.
