Colts Draft Darius Rush, Adding Another High-Upside Cornerback
The Indianapolis Colts have selected South Carolina cornerback Darius Rush in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, with the 138th overall pick.
Rush (6'2", 198, 33-3/8" arms, 23 years old) is another big, athletic, fast player added to a position at cornerback that lacked quality depth from the top to bottom.
The Colts drafted cornerback JuJu Brents out of Kansas State in the second with the 44th overall pick on Friday, so they give themselves two players with similar profiles; Brents is a little longer while Rush is a bit faster. Either player should be able to compete for a starting spot on the outside in training camp.
According to the Indy Draft Guide, here is how Rush fits with the Colts:
Rush’s size at 6’2 198 lbs is excellent for a boundary corner at the next level. During this year's Senior Bowl Rush was among the most impressive corners during the event's practice week. Rush was seen as the “other South Carolina corner” to many early on in the draft process but Rush has used the senior bowl and combine to make a name for himself. His above average size, length, athleticism and experience in zone coverage makes him an excellent fit with the Colts and what they prioritize at the position.
