Rookie minicamp for the Indianapolis Colts begins today, which means the 2023 draft class for the Colts will take the practice field for the first time.

It has been a whirlwind for all the rookies since they were drafted last weekend. But now, they can finally return to what they enjoy most: Playing football.

As is every year, fans love to speculate what jersey numbers each rookie will wear. For the 2023 class, the wait is finally over. The Colts revealed the jersey numbers for their 2023 draft class on Friday morning, giving fans a sneak peek at what they will look like on the field.

Here is a list of the draft picks and their corresponding jersey numbers:

  • CB Darius Rush - No.30
  • DE Titus Leo - No.91
  • CB Jaylon Jones - No.40
  • OT Jake Witt - No.76

The jersey number that most people were curious about was Richardson. After wearing No.2 and No.15 while at Florida, Richardson decided to go with No.5 with the Colts. No.5 is the number Richardson wore when he first started playing football as a child, and the quarterback wanted to return to the jersey that started it all.

Downs takes the No.1 previously held by former Colts wide receiver Parris Campbell. Campbell left the Colts in free agency this spring for the New York Giants. Like Campbell, Downs projects to work primarily out of the slot in Shane Steichen's offense.

Only one player from the Colts 2023 draft class is wearing the same jersey number they wore in college. That player is Hull, who wore No.26 while at Northwestern.

While these are the numbers the 2023 draft class will be wearing now, you may want to hold off on buying their jersey for the time being. It is not uncommon for rookies to change their jersey numbers after final roster cuts are made at the end of August as new numbers become available. Two recent examples include Nyheim Hines in 2018 (from No.42 to No.21) and Michael Pittman Jr. in 2020 (from No.86 to No.11).

Regardless of the numbers, putting their Colts jersey on for the first time will be a surreal moment for all these rookies. It may be at that point where it finally sinks in that they have realized their dream as a player in the NFL.
