Colts Owner Provides Update On Anthony Richardson's Shoulder
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson, who suffered an AC joint sprain on Oct. 8 against the Tennessee Titans, consulted with multiple specialists on whether his injury would require surgery. Six days ago, the team announced that surgery would be required to repair the injured shoulder of the franchise quarterback.
Tuesday night, Colts owner Jim Irsay confirmed that Richardson underwent surgery that day in Los Angeles, and it was successful. An essential part is that there were “no new surprises” during his surgery.
The Colts haven’t scheduled Richardson's return yet, but he has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season. If he doesn’t suffer any type of setback through this rehab process, he’s most likely to be fully recovered by the time OTAs roll around, which is the first time the team gathers in the offseason.
That’s huge, considering this will be his first full offseason as the starting quarterback for the Colts. Richardson spent most of the last offseason preparing for the draft and battling with Gardner Minshew for the starting QB job afterward.
This offseason will be very different for Richardson as he’ll have a new focus, especially with the experience he got briefly in 2023. He now will have an opportunity to build on what was a promising rookie season.
There will still be plenty of opportunities for Richardson to also have throwing sessions with the skill players on his own time. There are many reasons to be excited about the return of Richardson, especially since he proved to be ahead of everyone’s expectations. After rehab, he will be looking to take that next step in his career.
