Colts Star Reportedly Wants Traded
The saga involving the Indianapolis Colts and star running back Jonathan Taylor has hit a fever pitch, as he has reportedly requested to be traded following a meeting on Saturday with owner Jim Irsay.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, reporting live from Colts training camp on Saturday, tweeted, "Sources: #Colts star RB Jonathan Taylor has formally requested a trade after meeting with owner Jim Irsay."
According to ESPN's Stephen Holder, "Taylor actually requested a trade several days ago. The response was not 'no.'"
Taylor met with Irsay inside a luxury RV during practice, which he was seen entering, leading to plenty of speculation from those in attendance.
This offseason, Taylor voiced his displeasure with the lack of progress in a potential contract extension, as he is set to make $4.3 million in 2023, which is the final year of his contract.
Through his first three seasons in the NFL, Taylor has started 41-of-43 games, totaling 756 carries for 3,841 yards (5.1 avg.), and 33 touchdowns, including a league-leading 1,811 yards in 2021.
Taylor along with several fellow running backs around the league have spoken out regarding the treatment of running backs when it comes time for new contracts, which prompted Colts owner Jim Irsay to speak out on Twitter earlier this week about the situation in an unsympathetic tone towards the position group.
Taylor's agent, Malki Kawa, then responded to Irsay that it was in bad faith not to pay his team's best offensive player (Taylor). Kawa also later responded to a separate tweet saying that he doubted the relationship between the Colts and Taylor could be repaired.
Taylor has been present at the start of Colts training camp this week but is on the Physically Unable to Perform list after having a procedure on his ankle, so he has not physically practiced.
Outside of Taylor, the Colts also have running backs Zack Moss, Evan Hull, and Deon Jackson poised to take over the position.
