Colts Want Second Head Coach Interview with Sharp Offensive Mind
The Indianapolis Colts hope to bring in Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan for a second interview for the head coach position this week according to Albert Breer of The MMQB.
"Source: The Colts are working on bringing Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan to Indy for a second interview," Breer tweeted. "That one could happen as soon as Wednesday."
This comes after the narrow, 23-20 defeat that Callahan and the Bengals suffered at the hands of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game.
Despite losing to advance to Super Bowl LVI, Callahan displayed an uncanny ability to maximize the offense's weapons while missing three starting offensive linemen in the postseason. Put together the unparalleled performance from Callahan running Cincinnati’s offense over the past four seasons and it’s no shock that fans have been buzzing about the possibility of Callahan coaching a rookie quarterback and a brutal running back tandem like Jonathan Taylor and Zack Moss in Indianapolis.
Throughout a 13-year career that included coaching quarterback Peyton Manning (who gave Callahan high praise) with the Denver Broncos as well as the Detroit Lions, and Las Vegas Raiders, Callahan has been working toward the chance to lead his own squad. With a track record like that and a who’s-who of quarterbacks he’s worked with like the aforementioned Manning, Matthew Stafford, Derek Carr, and Joe Burrow, it’s hard to compare a hotter candidate for head coach, especially for a Colts team that will have a rookie field general.
The Colts are getting to the zenith of their head coaching search, now getting to the finale of their second interviews. Will Callahan top the search? Will he impress general manager Chris Ballard enough to get the position in the upcoming weeks?
It is getting exciting and now one of the most-talked-about names for the position is in the discussion to lead Indianapolis. Don’t blink or you’ll miss this hire.
