Should the Colts Sign Robert Woods?
The Indianapolis Colts face a pivotal offseason that will dictate the franchise’s future for years. One of the areas needing to be addressed is the position of wide receiver. Even if the Colts decide to re-sign receiver Parris Campbell, they may want to continue adding to that position group with a rookie quarterback on the horizon in this year’s NFL Draft.
The Colts’ divisional foe, the Tennessee Titans, just released their veteran pass-catcher, Robert Woods. With this news, can Indianapolis push the button and sign him?
Woods has been in the league for 10 years and on three teams (Buffalo Bills 2013-2016, Los Angeles Rams 2017-2021, and the Titans 2022).
He has put together a good resume throughout his decade-long NFL tenure. He’s sitting at 142 games played with 623 catches for 7,604 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 12.2 yards per catch. His best performances came during the three years (2018-2020) with Sean McVay’s Rams, where he had at least 85 catches and eclipsed 1,000 yards in two of those seasons (1,219 in 2018 and 1,132 in 2019).
He also has a Super Bowl LVI ring from the Rams’ championship win over the Cincinnati Bengals. After heading to Tennessee, he did drop off in production, with all 17 games played and just 53 catches for 527 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Titans had issues with their quarterbacks and overall offensive production, which likely played into this dip.
There will be multiple NFL clubs that’ll be interested in the veteran wideout.
The Colts could be included if they want to add depth pieces to their corps so that new head coach Shane Steichen and his rookie signal-caller have talent in the slot. The Colts have many decisions to make this off-season. Now that the Titans have allowed Woods to test free agency, it may have given Indianapolis a new name to consider bringing on board in 2023.
