Colts, Titans Announce Inactives Ahead of Sunday's Matchup

The Indianapolis Colts announced five inactives ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Tennessee Titans.

The Indianapolis Colts host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday in a game that already has potential postseason ramifications.

Both teams hold a 2-2 record (as does the entire AFC South), and while the Colts sit atop the division heading into the game, that would no longer be the case with a loss as the two teams continue to jockey for position throughout the season.

Both the Colts and Titans have injuries that could cause them issues in this matchup. Here are both teams' list of inactive players.

  • QB Sam Ehlinger
  • LB Shaquille Leonard (groin)
  • TE Will Mallory
  • DE Kwity Paye (concussion)
  • OT Bernhard Raimann (concussion)

The biggest name around active/inactive players is one that's not on the inactives list, and that's Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. He returned to practice this week, was removed from the Physically Unable to Perform list (ankle), and then was rewarded with a handsome new three-year, $42 million deal

“Shoot, he looked good," Colts head coach Shane Steichen told reporters about Taylor on Friday. "Conditioning wise he looked good. Again, it’s been a while since he’s been out there but he looked good the last couple days and we’ll make that decision when the game comes around.”

The Colts also get starting center Ryan Kelly back after he missed the last two-and-a-half games with a concussion.

“It’s huge," Steichen said about getting Kelly back. "Obviously, to have a veteran leader, a smart center – (Wesley) French has done a hell of a job while he’s stepped in, but to get Ryan Kelly back, it’s going to be big for the offensive line on Sunday.”

With Raimann out, it puts rookie Blake Freeland in the spotlight again to protect quarterback Anthony Richardson's blindside for the second straight week. With Paye out, expect to see more of Dayo Odeyingbo, Jake Martin, and Tyquan Lewis.

In base defense, Segun Olubi and Grant Stuard could both see action in Leonard's absence.

  • WR Treylon Burks (knee)
  • OL Jaelyn Duncan
  • LB Luke Gifford (hamstring)
  • QB Will Levis
  • LB Caleb Murphy
  • OT Nicholas Petit-Frere
  • DL Teair Tart (toe)

Burks and Gifford both missed last week's game with their injuries, and Tart was a new addition this week to the injury list.

Burks is a talented playmaker at wide receiver, so Tennessee will need to lean heavier on pass-catchers DeAndre Hopkins and Chig Okonkwo. Meanwhile, Tart always seems to give the Colts fits against the run. The Titans' top-five run defense will miss him on Sunday.
