Report: Colts Tight End Arrested on Friday

Indianapolis Colts tight end Drew Ogletree has been arrested for a domestic dispute, potentially ending his NFL career.

The Indianapolis Colts have produced a better-than-expected season in 2023, sitting at 8-7 and still in the hunt for a playoff spot in the AFC despite injuries and setbacks at the most crucial positions on the roster. The last thing the Colts need ahead of a must-win game with the Las Vegas Raiders is a player arrest.

Alas, WTHR Channel 13 reported on Friday that Colts tight end Drew Ogletree has been arrested for a domestic matter.

According to a police department spokesperson, Avon Police officers were called to a home Dec. 26 "regarding a physical domestic between an adult male and adult female."

The spokesperson said "a female victim was located on scene and was immediately transported to a local hospital for assessment and treatment of her injuries."

This news is both shocking and demoralizing for the Colts as they try to finish 2023 strong enough for a postseason push but could have to move forward without Ogletree. His reported arrest is due to alleged domestic battery committed in the physical presence of a child less than 16 and domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, according to state records.

The Colts themselves also released a statement on this matter via the IndyStar’s Joel A. Erickson.

"We are aware of the disturbing allegations involving Drew Ogletree. The team takes these matters seriously. We have notified the NFL and are in the process of gathering more information. We will have no further comment at this time."

Ogletree’s future with the Colts is likely over, but so could his NFL career be as well, as both charges appear to be felonies upon his arrest by Hendricks County authorities. During a season where there have been issues and suspensions galore, this is perhaps the most disturbing news the Colts could have received, and at the absolute worst time in the season.

With this news, look for tight ends Kylen Granson, Mo Alie-Cox, and Will Mallory to get bumps in playing time and activity on the field. Ogletree will finish 2023 and perhaps his career with nine catches for 147 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen will try his best to focus on an important game at home on New Year’s Eve against the Raiders, with playoff implications as high as they can be as the regular season draws to a close.
