New Developments Emerge in Colts’ Drew Ogletree Situation
It's been reported from Fox 59 that Indianapolis Colts tight end Drew Ogletree has had his domestic battery charges dismissed by Hendricks County courts.
Here is an excerpt from Fox 59's David Gay on the development:
According to previous reports, Ogletree faced two felony charges, including one count of domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, a Level 6 felony, and one count of domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a Level 6 felony.
Both charges, according to court documents, were “dismissed with prejudice” on Tuesday. According to the Legal Information Institute at the Cornell Law School, dismissal with prejudice means that the plaintiff cannot refile the same claim again in a specific court.
In the motion to dismiss, filed by the state of Indiana on Monday, officials with the Hendricks County Prosecutor’s Office said that “subsequent interviews with all of the parties involved revealed information and evidence not provided to law enforcement on the night of the alleged incident.”
Ogletree's agent, Brian Hamilton, released a statement on the case.
James Boyd of The Athletic posted on X:
"Statement from Brian Hamilton, the agent of #Colts TE Drew Ogletree:" “While preliminary investigations may have led to an arrest, that was only the start of the investigation process. … “Andrew has always maintained his innocence and he has been fully exonerated.”
While Ogletree's charges have been dropped, his NFL status is still in the hands of the league.
As IndyStar's Colts insider Joel Erickson says, Ogletree is: "currently on the Commissioner Exempt List; it is important to remember that the NFL will conduct its own investigation, despite dismissed charges."
Ogletree's future as an NFL tight end is still up in the air despite the charges being dropped. As Indianapolis evaluates free agency, Michael Pittman Jr., and the upcoming draft, we'll have to see what happens with Ogletree in the process.
