ESPN Reveals Biggest Question for Colts in 2023

After a disappointing 2022 season the Indianapolis Colts have a lot of questions to answer this year.
In this story:

The Indianapolis Colts failed spectacularly to live up to expectations in 2022. It cost head coach Frank Reich his job and saw Jeff Saturday take over the reins mid season.

With so much that went wrong in 2022, the Colts have a lot of questions heading into the new season.

Can first-year head coach Shane Steichen translate his success as an offensive coordinator to the top job?

Will the highly-paid offensive line perform like they're capable of performing?

Will Jonathan Taylor bounce back and earn the multi-year deal that has so far eluded the likes of Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs?

Will Shaq Leonard be healthy?

But the biggest question facing the Colts according to ESPN involves the quarterback position, which was a revolving door in 2022.

Is rookie QB

Anthony Richardson

ready to start?

The Colts used their No. 4 overall pick to address a position that has been a sore spot for years. Former Florida star

Anthony Richardson

represents a chance for the Colts to finally turn the page from the rough post-Andrew Luck era, in which quarterback instability became their unfortunate identity. But the question is whether Richardson is ready to assume a role of starting quarterback. Richardson's biggest knock coming out of college was his inexperience, and the Colts feel like true development won't happen until he's actually under center. But the presence of

Gardner Minshew

gives them at least an option if they find Richardson doesn't prove ready in training camp and the preseason. Watching it all play out should be fascinating. --

Early reviews for Richardson have been good. However, he still had under 400 passes in his college career with a 54.7% completion rate. Peyton Manning had nearly 1,000 more throws in college, and he still struggled his first season in the NFL.

Richardson's running ability will pose an immediate threat for opposing defenses. If Steichen can get Richardson to become even an average passer quickly, the Colts' offense is going to be dangerous in 2023.
