Hope Alive for Colts to Get No. 1 Pick in NFL Draft
The Indianapolis Colts are going into the 2023 NFL Draft with the number four pick. This is due to one of their worst finishes in recent memory, ending 2022 with a 4-12-1 record.
Many speculate that they will use their top pick on their quarterback of the future, but whether they stay at number four or attempt to get to the zenith of the picks is only hearsay for now.
However, according to NFL Insider Adam Schefter, there have been multiple teams that are reaching out to the Chicago Bears about trading for the number one pick.
Would one of those teams be the Colts? It is a real possibility given their situation at the most important position in football. And also, what package would they offer? Would that include cornerback Kenny Moore II or center Ryan Kelly? Who knows, but it could involve moving one of their stars to get to the front of the draft.
It was general manager Chris Ballard who said they would do whatever was needed to get their guy if they believed in him enough. Also, owner Jim Irsay eluded to liking the “Alabama kid,” that being University of Alabama quarterback Bryce Young. Many think Young will go either number one or will be the first signal-caller selected.
The Colts can likely still land one of the “big four” quarterbacks at their current standing. Young, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Kentucky’s Will Levis, and Florida’s Anthony Richardson have each been linked to Indianapolis in various mock drafts from experts and analysts all over. Some of those involved Indianapolis making the move to number one, and with different selections.
Right now, everything is only behind closed doors and nobody has released concrete details about which of the teams have pushed Chicago for number one. It wouldn’t be surprising, however, to find that Ballard and Co. put the Colts’ hat in the ring.
Let the number one pick sweepstakes begin.
