Jonathan Taylor One-Big Step Closer to Playing vs. Titans
Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor returned to practice this week for the first time in nearly a year.
The Colts opened the practice window for Taylor, giving them a 21-day period to evaluate him before deciding to put him on the active roster or returning him to the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list for the rest of the season.
Indianapolis made that decision on Saturday by announcing Taylor has been added to the 53-man roster and waived running back Jake Funk in a corresponding move.
"We have activated RB Jonathan Taylor from the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list and waived RB Jake Funk," the Colts released via Twitter/X.
The final step for seeing Taylor in action will occur roughly 90 minutes before kickoff against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. That's the deadline for announcing their 48-man game day roster.
Head coach Shane Steichen was coy with the media on Friday when discussing Taylor's status, but he gave hints that Taylor would be back.
“We’ll see. We’ll see," Steichen said with a big smile when asked if Taylor would return.
"Shoot, he looked good. Conditioning wise he looked good. Again, it’s been a while since he’s been out there but he looked good the last couple days and we’ll make that decision when the game comes around."
The Colts doubled down on Taylor's availability shortly after activating him. They removed the questionable designation from their injury report.
The final step for Jonathan Taylor is simply lining up behind quarterback Anthony Richardson and going to work.
