NFL Draft: Colts' Best Player Fits On Day 3
Day 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft saw the Indianapolis Colts add two notable prospects in Kansas State cornerback Julius Brents and North Carolina wide receiver Josh Downs to their day-one selection of quarterback Anthony Richardson.
The board has been friendly to the Colts so far, and heading into Day 3 is no different. Multiple quality prospects remain and the Colts are currently slated to have eight selections to attack the day.
OFFENSIVE LINE
After prioritizing other needs, the Colts are yet to add to their offensive line. With a need to add depth across the line as well as a starting spot being up for grabs, I expect the Colts to add multiple offensive lineman today. With solid depth remaining in this class at tackle, guard, and center, the options for the Colts today are vast. One notable name that still remains is Indy native and Ben Davis grad Dawand Jones out of Ohio State, check out a profile on the massive linemen HERE.
- Dawand Jones, Ohio State
- Luke Wypler, Ohio State
- Olusegun Oluwatimi, Michigan
- Chandler Zavala, NC State
- Nick Saldiveri, Old Dominion
- Braeden Daniels, Utah
- Andrew Vorhees, USC
- Jaelyn Duncan, Maryland
- Jon Gaines II, UCLA
- Atonio Mafi, UCLA
LINEBACKER:
As expected, the Colts elected to wait on adding at the linebacker spot until Day 3 of the draft. And while I understand the decision, using one of their eight selections today to add a linebacker with coverage ability should be of high priority. While some of the best coverage linebackers heard their name called yesterday, multiple still remain for the Colts to be able to walk out of this draft with a player to compete for their opening at their WILL spot. As well, as there are multiple linebackers that fit the Colts' normal mold on Day 3 to impact on special teams.
- Aubrey Miller Jr., Jackson State
- Sirvocea Dennis, Pittsburgh
- Anfernee Orji, Vanderbilt
- Owen Pappoe, Auburn
- Kyle Soelle, Arizona State
- Charlie Thomas, Georgia Tech
- Shaka Heyward, Duke
- Cam Jones, Indiana
- Jeremy Banks, Tennessee
- Amari Burney, Florida
WIDE RECEIVER:
The Colts added to their wide receiver room yesterday with the solid addition of Josh Downs, who the team selected in the third round. While the need at receiver isn't as large heading into Day 3, adding another receiver is for sure in the cards. Adding competition for training camp, with receivers that fit Shane Steichen's offense better than the past regime would make sense. With the addition in the slot taken care of, it opens the possibilities for the Colts to add to their outside depth as well.
- Tyler Scott, Cincinnati
- A.T. Perry, Wake Forest
- Trey Palmer, Nebraska
- Parker Washington, Penn State
- Andrei Iosivas, Princeton
- Grant DuBose, Charlotte
- Jalen Wayne, South Alabama
- Bryce Ford-Wheaton, West Virginia
- Dontayvion Wicks, Virginia
- Rakim Jarrett, Maryland
CORNERBACK:
The Colts filled a needed corner spot yesterday with the selection of Julius Brents. The room is so thin that adding another corner is certainly on the table. Especially with players like Kelee Ringo, Clark Phillips III, and Darius Rush shockingly still being available on Day 3. The addition of Brents, though allows the Colts to open their options from just boundary corners to the slot as well to add needed depth to the position.
- Kelee Ringo, Georgia
- Darius Rush, South Carolina
- Clark Phillips III, Utah
- Cory Trice, Purdue
- Jaylon Jones, Texas A&M
- Starling Thomas V, UAB
- Jakorian Bennett, Maryland
- Carrington Valentine, Kentucky
- Terrell Smith, Minnesota
- Rejzohn Wright, Oregon State
DEFENSIVE LINE:
If Chris Ballard doesn't take a defensive lineman on Day 3 with so many selections at their disposal, I’d be very surprised. The team is excited to see Kwity Paye and Dayo Odeyingbo have larger roles together this year along with newly signed Samson Ebukam in the fold. Adding depth on the edge as well as the interior though is very expected today.
