Colts' Shane Steichen Hypes Germany Matchup Against Patriots

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen shared how important a win to get back to a .500 record would be for his team in Week 10.

It's natural for an NFL head coach to downplay media storylines. Whether it's to handle emotions or minimize pressure, coaches typically answer with clichés such as "it's just another game" when asked about a particular matchup.

But that wasn't the case for Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen on Wednesday. When the Colts head coach met with the media, he emphasized the importance of the team's Week 10 matchup against the New England Patriots.

The game, which will be in Germany, will be Indianapolis' final matchup before the bye week. With a victory, the Colts could even their record at 5-5.

“Heck yeah it’s meaningful. Shoot, to get to .500 before the bye is big," Steichen told reporters on Wednesday. "I mean the message this week is focus on the game. We’re going over there on a business trip to go win a football game. That’s the message.

"It’s a long road trip. Stay focused. Obviously, it will be a great experience for everybody going over there, but maintain your focus, maintain your level of consistency going through your process getting ready to go play a football game.”

The Colts practiced Wednesday after having off days on Monday and Tuesday. A to Z Sports' Destin Adams reported Indianapolis will hold a walkthrough practice on Thursday before flying to Frankfort, Germany.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick told the media on Monday that his team will also fly to Germany on Thursday night and arrive Friday morning.

The Colts and Patriots have obviously played some very memorable games in their rivalry, but this will be the first time the two foes meet in a different country. It will also be just the second NFL game ever held in Frankfort.

The first was the Kansas City Chiefs-Miami Dolphins matchup on November 5.

The Colts have played just one previous game outside the United States in their history. They lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars, 30-27, at Wembley Stadium in London during the 2016.
