Colts HC Shane Steichen Breaks Silence on QB Rumors

What do the Indianapolis Colts have planned at quarterback?
In this story:

New Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen isn’t typically a man of many words. He often chooses full responses with avoidance of rambling, so he gets his points across smoothly and quickly.

He recently addressed the Indianapolis media and was asked about the offseason, quarterbacks, and meeting with his players a few weeks before the NFL draft.

Obviously, how Steichen will address the future quarterback is where many Colts fans have their attention. Steichen was asked multiple questions about the Colts' need for a quarterback, including whether he "feels good" about where the team is at.

“Yeah, we’re still going through that process," Steichen said. "We’re 15 days away from the draft and still working through all those things.”

Steichen has preached that he believes preparation is the key to winning in the NFL. It’s not surprising that he feels confident with where his new team is at in the crazy process of pursuing a franchise quarterback.

In a matter of ways, Steichen is still catching up with how much he needs to absorb being a first-time head coach. He’s truly drinking from a fire hydrant with the speed of the job.

Next, when it comes to landing that coveted QB lynchpin, Steichen addressed whether the Colts are more focused on the 2023 draft class, or the NFL veteran ranks.

“Yeah, we’re focused on the draft, and I’m going to focus on the guys that are in the building right now," Steichen said. "That’s where we’re at.”

There’s no question the Colts must put most of their focus into the void at quarterback. However, Steichen has to be focused on who’s on the roster first. He showed his excitement recently in a meeting with his players.

With the draft mere weeks away, the table is starting to be set for a huge night in Kansas City. The Colts will need to be on point and ready for all possibilities. Based on the responses from their head coach, it sounds like the Colts are prepared for anything.
