Bears WR Darnell Mooney: Commanders Free Agency Target?

The Washington Commanders could be in the receiver market in free agency, and Chicago Bears wideout Darnell Mooney is among the players looking for a new home.

The Washington Commanders could be on the lookout for a wide receiver or two in this year's free agency market.

While Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson are expected to be the top two receivers in the offense, whichever new quarterback comes to Washington should be armored with as many weapons as possible. On top of that, Curtis Samuel is a free agent, and the team could look to bring him back ... or sign his replacement.

Among the potential players the Commanders could sign is Chicago Bears receiver Darnell Mooney.

Mooney turns 27 next season so he's got several good years ahead of him physically if he can avoid serious injury and he'll likely be on the move looking to reclaim some of the momentum he had following the 2021 NFL season.

In 2023, Mooney caught just 31 passes for 414 yards and a touchdown -- all career lows for the fourth-year receiver out of Tulane.

While the Bears seem to be looking for a restart with USC quarterback Caleb Williams, Mooney could on the lookout for a chance to contribute elsewhere.

He's projected by Spotrac to demand around $13.5 million per year on a new deal, plenty affordable for a team with nearly $100 million in cap space.

Should Commanders Sign O-Line Reinforcements in Free Agency?

His blend of previous performance and youthful potential makes him a possible target for Washington next week.

NFL free agency officially begins on Wednesday, March 13.
