Could Commanders Revisit, Reverse Decision on Pursuing Ravens QB Lamar Jackson?

The Baltimore Ravens shook up the NFL by placing the non-exclusive tag on quarterback Lamar Jackson. Despite the initial lack of interest from the Washington Commanders, could that change?

The Washington Commanders aren't going to pursue Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson ... or are they?

Pro Football Talk believes the door is still open for the Commanders to make a run at Jackson.

Even though head coach Ron Rivera did name Sam Howell as their starting quarterback in the lead-up to the Super Bowl. But as Pro Football Talk (PFT) pointed out, that was before the Ravens put the non-exclusive tag on Jackson.

"Obviously, Lamar is a better option than Howell from a football standpoint. Jackson would be far more expensive, and the question would become whether the investment makes sense to the team, ..." Pro Football Talk said. "From a football standpoint, he clearly would make the Commanders better."

With Dan Snyder potentially in the process of selling the franchise, making a move as massive as signing Jackson could come with regret if he does ultimately sell.

"If [Snyder] sells and if the team improves under new management, people could be inclined to credit the new owner," PFT says. "But if Snyder adds Jackson before Snyder exits, it will be impossible to not give Snyder credit for making the move."

A broken clock is right twice a day, and if Snyder green lights the move to sign Jackson and the Commanders pull a 180 on their current feelings, this could be a moment where that clock is correct.
