'Do Your Job!' Commanders Coach Ron Rivera's New 3-Word Sign Inside Washington Locker Room
Just because it's a cliche doesn't mean it can't work. So Ron Rivera is borrowing a page from Bill Belichick, sprinkled with a bit of Ted Lasso, as his way of sending a message to his Washington Commanders team ahead of Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Reeling after three straight losses, the Commanders - with big hopes for 2023 inspired in part by the new ownership of Josh Harris in place of the ousted Dan Snyder - are now being greeted by a sign in their locker room at the facility that reads: "DO YOUR JOB."
All caps. All Belichick. All Lasso. And why?
"Because," Rivera said, "looking at the tape, watching the games, our previous five games, looking at some of the stuff that I read, the numbers, obviously to me, there's a sense and a feel that we're not doing the things that we need to do."
The sign was erected following the team's 40-20 loss to the lowly Chicago Bears, a nationally televised game in which the Commanders, who started 2-0, slipped deep into a valley. Washington is now 2-3 and the coach's "sense and feel" about all the things going wrong? His sense and his feel are registered right there on the scoreboard and right there in the standings.
'Fire Ron Rivera!'? Fans Rip Washington for Loss to Lowly Bears
The New England Patriots legendary coach Bill Belichick popularized the "DO YOUR JOB" mantra. TV's football-turned-soccer coach Ted Lasso went with "BELIEVE." So, as they prep to take on the Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium this week ... do they?
"If all 11 do their job, then you're gonna be successful," Washington tight end Logan Thomas said. "That's the thing that we haven't done. It hasn't been 11 every play. It's been 10, it's been nine, it's been 10. But if all 11 do our job, then we're gonna be doing pretty dang good."
