Report: Haskins to make Redskins home debut

Bill Callahan didn't want to say it Monday. Or probably today. And he hasn't and won't until next Monday, but a report from Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network suggests and confirms that the Redskins are planning to do what the entire free world thought they should do.

The Redskins are planning to start Dwayne Haskins in their first game out of the bye week against Gregg Williams' defense and the New York Jets.

The same Williams who the Redskins reportedly tried to hire to replace their current defensive coordinator this past off-season.

It will be Haskins first playing time at home, outside of the preseason.

The Bullis Bulldogs (Potomac, Maryland) high school product will finally get to play in front of the home fans (however many are there) at FedExField, assuming the plan doesn't change.

Assuming the report by Garafolo is true, that means Callahan made a decision on his own, because he reportedly has full control of the roster.

Haskins turnover-less performance in Buffalo on Sunday must have changed the interim head coach's mind quite a bit because just ten days ago or so, Case Keenum was still the starter, but in concussion protocol.

Perhaps Keenum hasn't been sufficiently cleared but there's still plenty of time for that. It's pretty clear that Callahan either changed his mind or somebody above stepped in and decided the future is now.

Maybe it was the man that chose him?

Even if it was - it's the right move. The Redskins have to see if the arrow points up for a second game in a row and if progress is made.

How will we judge improvement?

A touchdown drive of any sort might be a good first step.
