Jerry Jones vs. Roger Goodell: Cowboys Owner 'Knows Everything' in Dan Snyder Commanders Report
PHOENIX - Jerry Jones vs. Roger Goodell ... again?
The two NFL powerbrokers - Jones as the Dallas Cowboys owner, Goodell as the league commissioner - have often butted heads. But on Monday here at the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix, Jones voiced his support for Goodell (who is up for a raise).
“His direct conversations with owners are very satisfactory and is enough for me,” Jones told us.
So that's the end of that ...
Except that on Tuesday, Jones was asked about the informational release of the NFL’s probe into allegations of behavioral misconduct and financial improprieties by embattled Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder.
Jones said he supports the idea of the Mary Jo White investigation details being released, adding that he already knows “everything in the report.”
That's a bold statement - which is nothing new to colorfully outspoken Jones, who also this week told Commanders Country at SI that he and long-time pal Snyder are not presently "lovey-dovey.''
But Goodell finds the "everything in the report'' claim to be, well, too bold.
“That would be impossible (for Jones to have that knowledge) since the only person I know of that knows anything about the investigation is (league investigator) Mary Jo White and her counterparts,” Goodell said.
The Commanders owner is working through the sale of the franchise, with some owners taking the position that Snyder needs to exit, one way or another. On Tuesday, one group led by Josh Harris and another group led by Canadian billionaire Steve Apostolopoulos each formally submitted fully financed bids for the purchase of the franchise, which in a sense is stuck in limbo until Snyder is gone.
In the meantime, "Jerry vs. Roger'' aside, it's not really important whether Jones has inside info on the report. What does matter is that it figures soon to be a report on the actions of the former Washington Commanders owner.
