The Washington Commanders were in the Super Bowl for a hot second against the Kansas City Chiefs, instead of the San Francisco 49ers.

The Washington Commanders are recovering from a 4-13 season where they didn't finish anywhere close to the Super Bowl, but not necessarily according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

Instead, they'll be lacing up for Sunday's big game at Allegiant Stadium against the AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Of course, mistakes happen, and this is one that Commanders fans wish wasn't a mistake. Schefter quickly edited his post from Commanders to the San Francisco 49ers, the NFC Champion.

Perhaps Schefter was thinking about the Commanders' new general manager hire Adam Peters, who spent the past three seasons as the Niners assistant GM ... or defensive end Chase Young, who was traded by Washington to San Francisco ahead of the trade deadline this season.

The Commanders also have connections to the Chiefs, as the team employed former Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy this season as assistant head coach.

With Ron Rivera fired and Dan Quinn coming in, Bieniemy isn't expected to return, especially after Kliff Kingsbury was named the team's offensive coordinator late Sunday night.

The Chiefs and 49ers are now in Vegas as they prepare for the biggest game of their lives on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
