Former Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera is three weeks removed from being fired by the team he led for four seasons, but he could be finding work very soon.

According to CBS Sports reporter Jonathan Jones, Rivera interviewed with the Los Angeles Rams for their vacant defensive coordinator position over the weekend.

Rivera, 62, would be looking to replace Raheem Morris, who was hired by the Atlanta Falcons to be their head coach on Thursday.

Rivera hasn't been a defensive coordinator since 2010, when he was with the San Diego Chargers. Since then, he's coached the Carolina Panthers (2011-19) and Washington (2020-23).

But Rivera expressed desire to take a step back and return to the coordinator ranks.

"Sometimes you do have to take a step back," Rivera said via ESPN. "You take a step back you learn and grow from it. It's like I told other players, if you look at this year as a lost year, you're [hurting] yourself. You should look at it as a year to learn and understand why things happen. This was probably the greatest learning experience I've had in a while this year. I mean, a lot of things came to light at certain times this past season that I think going forward will really help me."

Rivera interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles before they hired veteran Vic Fangio away from the Miami Dolphins. But now, perhaps Rivera can return to southern California and join Sean McVay's staff with the Rams.
