'Signs Point' to Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki Leaving; Commanders Signing in Free Agency?

The Washington Commanders could use an upgrade at tight end. Could it come in the form of Miami Dolphins pass catcher Mike Gesicki?
In this story:

The Washington Commanders are due for a makeover at tight end and they could be a fit for one of the league's top free agents.

Miami Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki is entering free agency next month and the Miami Herald is reporting that he is not likely to return in 2023.

"All signs point to Gesicki leaving Miami in free agency in March," The Miami Herald wrote. "While his struggles as a blocker limited his playing time, Gesicki still had moments when he showed why he is one of the league’s best pass-catching tight ends."

Gesicki saw a major drop in production this past season as he became a fixture in new head coach Mike McDaniel's offense. After catching for over 700 yards in 2020 and 2021, Gesicki was limited to just 362 yards this past season. However, the former Penn State product caught five touchdowns, proving to be a red zone threat.

Adding Gesicki to the Commanders offense would take attention off of Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel and Jahan Dotson. Logan Thomas is currently the one occupying the top tight end role, but at 32 years old, his best days are likely behind him and the team could benefit from going with a younger, more proven option like Gesicki.
