INDIANAPOLIS -- The Washington Commanders are lining their ducks in a row with free agency coming up in the next week or so.

Among the potential options for the Commanders to fortify their offensive line is New England Patriots tackle Mike Onwenu.

Onwenu, 26, was a sixth-round pick by the Patriots out of Michigan in the 2020 NFL Draft. He presents an option that could become the team's solution for years to come. He was a natural right guard at Michigan. But when he got to the NFL, he played tackle for his first two seasons. He switched back to guard in 2022 and was a Second-Team All-Pro. He began last season as the Patriots' right guard, but moved to right tackle when the line fell apart.

With only Sam Cosmi's spot on the offensive line secure from the 2023 formation, the Commanders are basically looking for a quartet of new starters, and Onwenu could be that ... whether at right tackle or elsewhere.

Commanders 'High' on Maye, Have Draft 'Favorite'

Either way, the Commanders are going to re-shuffle the deck with their offensive line, and adding someone as versatile as Onwenu could help in more ways than one.

NFL Free Agency officially begins on Wednesday, March 13.
