Saints 'Best Trade Package' Candidate for Commanders DE Chase Young?

With Chase Young's future up in the air, several trade options have been brought up, with the New Orleans Saints named as a potential destination.
In this story:

Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young's career is at a crossroads as the franchise declined his fifth-year option. Young must play well and show he is past his injury troubles to secure another payday.

But with Washington's decision not to extend Young, there are rumors of teams interested, and Bleacher Report has named the New Orleans Saints as one team who could give the Commanders one of the best trade packages if they decide to go after Young.

New Orleans Saints receive: DE Chase Young and a 2024 third-round pick
Washington Commanders receive: 2024 second-round pick, 2024 sixth-round pick and DE Payton Turner

"In this transaction, the Saints and Commanders would exchange defensive ends with an injury history, but New Orleans would get a player who's had more flashes," Bleacher Report writes. "With Young, Cameron Jordan, Carl Granderson, Tanoh Kpassagnon and rookie second-rounder Isaiah Foskey, the Saints would have a solid stable of pass-rushers.

"As for the Commanders, they would get a second-round pick, which would be valuable if the team needs to rebuild in 2024, and a 25-year-old defensive end who can turn his potential into production if healthy. While on the field for just 171 defensive snaps in 2022, Turner recorded 16 tackles, five for loss and two sacks."

So, this potential deal is neither good nor bad and there is a lot of "ifs" with it.

Washington is trading away a player with an injury history and getting the same in return.

But as Bleacher Report states, the draft capital that Washington could get for Young might help the franchise out in the long run. A second-round pick could prove valuable, and in Turner, the Commanders get a player who is desperate to show he can still produce at NFL level.

Having played just 13 games across two seasons with the Saints, Turner hasn't set the world on fire after being a first-round selection in the 2021 Draft. But he has first-round potential, which could be the sweetener in the deal for Washington.

The key in this deal is if Turner can stay healthy. If he can, then Jack Del Rio's defense could reap the rewards of the defensive end's talent, all the while adding to its draft capital. It could be a win-win.
