The Washington Commanders may have lost to the New York Jets on Christmas Eve, but they won a higher spot in the 2024 NFL Draft order.

At 4-11, the Commanders now hold the No. 3 overall pick, just behind the Chicago Bears (who have the Carolina Panthers' first-round pick after the Bryce Young trade a year ago) and Arizona Cardinals, who are 3-12.

The New England Patriots upset the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football last night, giving them the No. 4 overall pick. The Tennessee Titans round out the top 5 with a 5-10 mark.

With the Commanders leapfrogging the Pats, there is a legitimate chance Washington ends up with a top-3 pick in the upcoming draft ... and it begs the question if the team will seriously consider drafting a quarterback.

Commanders to 'Evaluate Everything' at QB as Howell Benched vs. Jets

The Bears and Cardinals could also pick one of the top quarterbacks, like USC's Caleb Williams or North Carolina's Drake Maye, but they also have Justin Fields and Kyler Murray, which could allow them to trade back or pick a non-quarterback with their pick, like Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. or Penn State tackle Olu Fashanu.

While Sam Howell appeared like a serviceable quarterback in his first full season as a starter, he has struggled mightily in the second half of the season, especially in the last two games where he was benched in favor of veteran Jacoby Brissett, who brought the Commanders back in both games.
