NFL Round 2 Mock Draft: Commanders Get 'Excellent Value' for QB?

The Washington Commanders could officially make a decision on the quarterback situation for the 2023 season on Day 2 of the NFL Draft.
In this story:

The Washington Commanders still have a host of needs to address for Day 2 of the NFL Draft, and it starts with the No. 47 overall pick.

After addressing the defensive side of the ball on Day 1 by selecting Emmanuel Forbes from Mississippi State with the No. 16 pick, ESPN projects for them to take Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker.

"Sam Howell (2022 fifth-round pick) and 30-year old journeyman Jacoby Brissett are expected to compete for the starting QB job, but it might be that neither will be the long-term answer for the Commanders," ESPN writes. "Getting Hooker here is an excellent value, and he is capable of competing for the job as soon as he recovers from the ACL injury to his left knee he suffered in November."

The Commanders have shown a lot of promise towards Howell, and have given him the inside track to gain some starts during the season ... up until this point.

With Hooker and Will Levis headlining the Day 2 quarterbacks, Howell's fate going into the 2023 season will likely be decided today. Should the Commanders draft outside of the position, Howell and Brissett should officially have the reins for the upcoming season.

However, Hooker could end up in Washington, especially after the team hosted him for a top-30 visit, and Levis' value may just be too good to pass up on. Regardless, if Hooker and/or Levis is in the cards for Washington, the Commanders have to at least consider the option.
