NFL Rumors: Packers to Sign Commanders Ex Carson Wentz?
Former Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz is still on the market.
In eight games, Wentz threw for 1,755 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions for the Commanders in 2022. Wentz has also started under center for the Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts.
With nothing linking Wentz to a future team, ESPN proposed the 30-year-old quarterback to become a backup for the Green Bay Packers.
"Wentz might benefit from being out of the Northeast and away from the major media markets," ESPN writes. "Green Bay Packers fans are just as obsessed about their team as fans of the Eagles and Commanders, of course, but Wentz's QBR during his lone season in Indianapolis was 60.6 -- 22 points better than his mark across his final season in Philadelphia and lone year in Washington combined."
The Packers find themselves in a similar situation to Washington. Both teams are likely rolling with a quarterback that'll be in their first year as a starter and still has expectations to be competitive in 2023.
Washington is seemingly going to roll with former fifth-round pick Sam Howell, while Green Bay is going with its former first-round pick Jordan Love.
With Love fully entrenched as the Packers starting quarterback after trading Aaron Rodgers, adding someone with starting experience could make Carson Wentz a viable option.
