Sam Howell vs. Hendon Hooker: Commanders Have Only 1 QB on NFL Draft Visit

Hendon Hooker is the so-far pinpointed QB in this NFL Draft as he's making a Commanders visit.
In this story:

The Washington Commanders have talked confidently about the idea of Sam Howell as their top quarterback in 2023.

But just in case ... Hendon Hooker is the so-far pinpointed QB in this NFL Draft as he's making a Commanders visit, as John Keim of ESPN.com tweets. And furthermore, not only is he the "one''. ...

He's also the "only.''

Hooker is the only quarterback presently part of the Commanders’ visit list, according to Albert Breer of SI.

Could Hooker be available at No. 16, where the the Commanders presently sit? Does he merit being taken that high?

Coach Ron Rivera, even while praising Howell and while signing vet Jacoby Brissett, has not closed the door on using a premium pick at the position. In the case of the 6-3 Hooker, his knee injury sustained late last season could impact his draft status.

Nevertheless, the numbers are there. Over the last two years, Hooker's TD to INT ratio is a fantastic 58-to-5. Oh, and he can run, too, as he gained more than 1,000 rushing yards in each of the last two seasons.

And one more thing: He's gained a big-game rep after having thrown five TD passes in a shootout against powerful Alabama.

Is Hooker on the same level as a prospect as fellow classmates like C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young, Will Levis and Anthony Richardson? Maybe not.

But is his promise at a level above Sam Howell? That's the real question - and the justifiable real reason for a visit.
