An IPA Providing Hope?
It's so bad for the Washington Redskins and owner Daniel Snyder that the mid-week conversation on 106.7 The FAN in Washington, D.C. was centered around the hope (possibility?) that the Redskins would one day move to London.
That was in morning drive on the very popular "Sports Junkies" show.
As I was listening, one of the four hosts, Eric Bickel mentioned that he was hearing from an unnamed person on social media that Dan Snyder was allegedly beginning the process of selling the organization.
I can't imagine that. I can't believe that. I can't buy it but could you imagine if it ever happened?
A parade larger than the combined size and turnout of the Washington Nationals and Washington Capitals love fests would be in place.
In the interest of fairness, Snyder was nice to me in any encounter we had during the five years I worked for the radio station he owned (2010-2015), so I always feel a bit uncomfortable with any subject about him, because I try to judge individuals purely on my interactions with them.
However, the 20 + year record, constant fiascoes and many, many harrowing stories of his reign puts everyone in a really tough spot.
It has led to complete fan apathy, a large drop-off in attendance over the years and constant upheaval.
I don't blame the fans. They are customers. They pay a lot of money to support a constantly disappointing product. No matter how "damn good the culture is" as Bruce Allen recently suggested, many fans/customers have gradually become exhausted.
The constant problems lead to this unique item from Harpers Ferry Brewery in Purcellville, Virginia. An IPA titled "Sell The Team" is now available in their brewery.
You've seen the shirts everywhere and the signs. You've heard the unrest and no doubt, you have witnessed it at FedExField. Now you can drink it and perhaps feel better about the carnage.
One bit of advice. Save some money for a ride home, because one of these might not change the Redskins fortune but it might knock out some of your pain and put you out to pasture.
Something many Redskins fans hope happens to Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen. Sooner than later.
