Washington Commanders GM Adam Peters Under Major Pressure to Nail QB Decision
The NFL Draft is just weeks away, and perhaps no one is under more pressure than Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters.
Heading into the draft, the Commanders’ organization lacks a face of the franchise, but taking the correct signal-caller could change the entire team’s trajectory.
“Peters has done a lot to change the culture and talent level in free agency, but it will be all for naught if he doesn't get the No. 2 overall pick right,” BR writes. “The future of the organization rides with selecting the right quarterback…Our scouting department sees (Drake) Maye as the clear choice.”
First-year general managers rarely inherit winning situations, and Peters is no exception. Overall, his reputation will be tied to who he drafts at No. 2 this year. While some like the idea of Washington drafting North Carolina’s Maye, the consensus opinion is that the team will go in another direction.
Reigning Heisman Trophy winner, LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels threw for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns, and four interceptions with an impressive 72.2 completion percentage. He also ran for 1,134 yards on 8.4 yards per carry and reached the end zone 10 times.
Daniels has been the player most often tied to Washington with the No. 2 overall pick. Based on college production, no other quarterback offers the same amount of combined arm talent and rushing ability that Daniels does.
Whoever Peters ultimately decides to draft, Commanders fans will hope can lead the team to the playoffs in year one, just as last year’s No. 2 overall pick, C.J. Stroud, did for the Houston Texans and Robert Griffin III, did for Washington during his rookie season in 2012.
