Washington Commanders Adjustments Can 'Absolutely' Help Team Growth, Says Ron Rivera

The Washington Commanders are going through a tough period in their season, but some key adjustments could help turn the team's fortunes around.

They say life comes at you fast. After starting the season 2-0, the Washington Commanders are now 3- 4 after their latest loss to the New York Giants.

With Sam Howell getting sacked for fun (40 times, leads the NFL) and the once stout Jack Del Rio defense now giving up 27.1 points a game (ranks 29th), things aren't exactly going swimmingly.

But can some tweaks here and there alter the team's trajectory going forward? Head coach Ron Rivera believes so.

“Absolutely," Rivera said. "There's a bunch of things that need to go right for things to be even better. And a lot of them have gone right. There's a lot of things that are in place but there's a few other things that have to come into place, and those are things that we're working on, and we're going to correct, and we're going to work on and get better at."

With Washington losing four of its last five games, things are getting a tad wobbly.

But with a young quarterback in Howell, who is still learning what it means to be an NFL starter, along with Eric Bieniemy's new offensive system, things naturally take time to develop.

Unfortunately, the NFL is a results business, and fans want results immediately. Rivera knows that for the Commanders to succeed, many things need to go right, and he's hopeful that it will happen sooner rather than later.

"To come together and be a good football team, you've got to have a lot of things go right. And we've had several of them step into place, but we're not there yet, and we're going to continue to work, and hopefully, we'll get there very soon.”

The next step on the Commanders' road to growth is hosting the 6-1 Philadelphia Eagles at FedEx Field.

Washington pushed the NFC champions to overtime in their Week 4 clash, and Rivera will no doubt hope that the "adjustments" his team is making will prove pivotal in handing the Eagles their second loss of the season.
