Commanders LB Andre Jones Achieving 'Lifelong Dream' After Being Drafted

Andre Jones is ready to work for the Washington Commanders after being drafted in the seventh round of the NFL Draft.
In this story:

As the NFL Draft trucks along, dreams come true, but the chances of carving out a successful career in the league fade for the players as the weekend goes by.

Statistically, players drafted in the seventh round have far less of a chance of succeeding in the league than the first round draftees, but that won't prevent Washington Commanders linebacker Andre Jones from trying.

Jones, the No. 233 overall pick in last week's NFL Draft, is excited to grab an opportunity with the Commanders and hopes to continue beating the odds.

“It’s a lifelong dream man," Jones said. "It's waiting on opportunity. That's all I was waiting on and that's all I need, opportunity and I'm glad they gave me the chance. That's all. Its so many emotions that I have going on right now, I just don't know what to do. I don't know if I want to take off running and run through the street or something. I’m just happy right now. I knew it was coming, but you know, God doesn’t make any mistakes.”

Jones had a career-year in 2022 with 6.5 sacks and an interception. In 2021, he had six sacks, 35 tackles plus two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Now, he hopes to make some contributions with the Commanders.
